4-DAY MOUNT MERU CLIMB WITH SURICATA SAFARIS

DAY 1

Arusha to Momella Gate (1500m) to
Miriakamba Hut (2541m)

Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up in Arusha, followed by a scenic 1-hour drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park, where you’ll meet your guide, porters, and armed ranger. The trail winds through lush forests teeming with wildlife, giving you a chance to see baboons, colobus monkeys, and a variety of bird species. You’ll pass by the serene Momella Lakes, known for their reflective beauty and flocks of flamingos.After several hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Miriakamba Hut, your first overnight stop, nestled in the forest. Here, you’ll enjoy dinner prepared by the trekking cook and relax in comfortable mountain huts surrounded by the sounds of nature.

DAY 2

Miriakamba Hut (2541m) to Saddle Hut
(3570m)

After breakfast, the trek continues upward through a mix of montane forest and moorland landscapes. The path becomes steeper as you ascend the Elephant Ridge, a prominent feature of the trail that offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding plains, valleys, and Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days. By midday, you’ll arrive at Saddle Hut, located at the base of Mount Meru’s dramatic summit ridge. The hut offers a chance to rest and acclimatize before the challenging summit attempt. For those feeling energetic, an optional hike to Little Meru (3,820 m / 12,533 ft) is available in the afternoon. This short climb provides excellent acclimatization and spectacular sunset views over the Maasai Steppe and Arusha. Spend the evening enjoying a warm meal, preparing gear for the summit attempt, and resting for an early start.

DAY 3

Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak (4566m) to
Miriakamba Hut (2541m)

The most challenging and exhilarating part of the trek begins in the early hours, with a pre-dawn start around 1:00–2:00 AM. Equipped with headlamps, you’ll ascend the rocky trail leading to the summit ridge. The trek involves passing key landmarks such as Rhino Point (3,800 m) and Cobra Point (4,350 m). These sections require some scrambling and careful footing but reward you with awe-inspiring views of the Meru Crater and its jagged cliffs. As the first light of dawn breaks, you’ll reach Socialist Peak, the summit of Mount Meru. From here, enjoy the breathtaking sight of the sun rising over Mount Kilimanjaro, the surrounding savannas, and the vast crater below. This is a truly unforgettable moment and the pinnacle of your journey. After taking in the views and capturing photos, you’ll begin your descent back to Saddle Hut, where a hot lunch awaits. Rest briefly before continuing the descent to Miriakamba Hut for your final night on the mountain.

DAY 4

Miriakamba Hut (2541m) to Momella Gate
(1500m) to Arusha

On the final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before descending through the lush forest back to Momella Gate. This section of the trail offers excellent opportunities for wildlife spotting, including playful colobus monkeys, warthogs, and colorful birds. At the gate, you’ll be presented with a certificate to commemorate your successful climb. After goodbyes to your team, you’ll be driven back to Arusha, arriving by early afternoon. Spend the rest of the day relaxing or exploring Arusha’s attractions, such as the Maasai Market or local cafes.
