DAY 1

Londrossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Leaving Arusha, enjoy a scenic 45-minute drive through charming mountainside villages on your way to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. As you begin your trek, step into the lush rainforest, where winding trails are framed by vibrant wildlife. Your guide will provide insightful details about the local flora, fauna, and the region’s unique ecosystem. The lower elevations can be muddy and slippery, so it’s recommended to wear gaiters and use trekking poles for added support and stability.

DAY 2

Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

After a restful night and a satisfying breakfast, we bid farewell to the rainforest and start our ascent. The trail gradually climbs, revealing expansive views as we near the rim of the Shira Plateau. As we gain elevation, temperatures begin to drop, signaling the shift to cooler, higher-altitude terrain.

DAY 3

Shira 1 Camp to Shira Hut

We spend the day exploring the Shira Plateau, taking a leisurely walk east toward the glacier-capped summit of Kibo. The route crosses the vast plateau, leading us to Shira 2 Camp, set in moorland meadows beside a peaceful stream. From there, we continue to the remote Moir Hut, nestled at the base of the Lent Hills. This quiet, less-frequented area offers a variety of scenic trails, ideal for acclimatization. As one of the highest plateaus on Earth, the Shira Plateau offers breathtaking views and a unique, otherworldly landscape.

DAY 4

Shira Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Although you’ll end the day at a similar elevation, this stage is vital for acclimatization. From the Shira Plateau, we head east up a ridge, passing the Kibo junction before turning southeast toward Lava Tower (“Shark’s Tooth”) at 4,650m. After passing the tower, we reach another junction leading to Arrow Glacier, then make our descent to Barranco Campfor the night.

DAY 5

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After breakfast, we tackle the steep ascent of the iconic Barranco Wall, a thrilling challenge that leads us into the Karanga Valley. At the valley, we reach the junction with the Mweka Trail. This is one of the most impressive days, as you’ll watch your crew navigate the wall with remarkable skill and agility. We’ll overnight at Karanga Camp, surrounded by breathtaking views.

DAY 6

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

We continue our ascent toward Barafu Camp, completing the South Circuit, which offers stunning panoramic views of the summit from various angles. Upon arrival, we enjoy an early dinner and rest in preparation for the challenging summit night ahead. Overnight at Barafu Camp.

DAY 7

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp


Excitement builds as we begin the ascent between midnight and 2 a.m., the most physically and mentally challenging part of the trek. We climb between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, staying warm and focused as we head toward the summit. The path winds northwest, ascending through scree to Stella Point on the crater rim, where you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking sunrise. Faster hikers may reach the summit in time to witness the sunrise from Uhuru Peak. From Stella Point, it’s a final hour to Uhuru Peak, where snow may greet you along the way. “Congratulations, you’ve reached Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro and all of Africa!”

After celebrating and taking photos, we begin our descent to Mweka Camp, with a break for lunch and a brief rest at Barafu Camp. The loose gravel and ash terrain make gaiters and trekking poles highly recommended. A well-earned rest awaits at Mweka Camp, where you’ll spend your final night on the mountain.

DAY 8

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

After breakfast and a team appreciation ceremony, it’s time to bid farewell to your guides, cooks, and porters—be sure to tip them for their hard work! We begin the descent to Mweka Park Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates. A vehicle will be waiting at Mweka Village to take you back to your hotel in Arusha. Enjoy a well- deserved hot shower, dinner, and a well-earned celebration of your incredible achievement!
