3-DAY MOUNT MERU CLIMB WITH SURICATA SAFARIS

DAY 1

Arusha to Momella Gate (1500m) to
Miriakamba Hut (2541m)

Your journey begins with a morning pick-up in Arusha and a scenic 1-hour drive to Momella Gate, the starting point of your trek in Arusha National Park. Here, you’ll meet your experienced
guide, dedicated porters, and an armed ranger who will accompany you through the wilderness.
The trail meanders through lush rainforests alive with wildlife, offering sightings of baboons, colobus monkeys, and an array of colorful bird species. As you ascend, you’ll pass the tranquil Momella Lakes, famous for their mirror-like reflections and vibrant flocks of flamingos.
After several hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Miriakamba Hut, your first overnight stop, nestled amidst the serene forest. Enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by your trekking chef and unwind in cozy mountain huts, surrounded by the soothing sounds of nature.

DAY 2

Miriakamba Hut (2541m) to Saddle Hut
(3570m)

After breakfast, the trek continues with a steady ascent through a blend of lush montane forest and open moorland. The trail becomes steeper as you climb Elephant Ridge, a striking feature that rewards you with breathtaking views of the surrounding plains, deep valleys, and, on clear days, the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. By midday, you’ll reach Saddle Hut, nestled at the base of Mount
Meru’s dramatic summit ridge. Here, you’ll have time to rest and acclimatize before the demanding summit push. For those with extra energy, an optional afternoon hike to Little Meru (3,820 m /
12,533 ft) is available. This short trek not only aids acclimatization but also offers stunning sunset vistas across the Maasai Steppe and Arusha National Park. In the evening, enjoy a hearty meal, prepare your gear for the summit climb, and get some much-needed rest in anticipation of the early morning adventure ahead.

DAY 3

Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak (4566m) to
Momella Gate (1500m)

The most demanding and thrilling part of the trek begins early, with a pre-dawn start around 1:00–2:00 AM. Using headlamps to guide the way, you’ll ascend the rocky trail toward the summit ridge. Along the way, you’ll pass notable landmarks like Rhino Point (3,800 m) and Cobra Point (4,350 m), where some scrambling and careful footing are needed, but the stunning views of the Meru Crater and its jagged cliffs make it all worthwhile. As dawn breaks, you’ll reach Socialist Peak, the summit of Mount Meru. From here, take in the unforgettable sight of the sun rising over Mount Kilimanjaro, the surrounding savannas, and the vast crater below. After enjoying the breathtaking views and snapping some photos, you’ll begin the descent back to Saddle Hut for a hot lunch and a brief rest. From there, continue down to Momella Gate, where your trek comes to an end.
